DuPont Teijin Films wins IDTechEx Printed Electronics Europe 2015 Award
DuPont Teijin Films have today been awarded the Technical Development Materials Award at the 11th Annual IDTechEx Printed Electronics Conference and Tradeshow 2015 taking place in Berlin, Germany. The award was given for the most significant technical development over the last 24 months in the material development field. The material which won this award is Melinex® PCS, a polyester film that provides a clean on demand surface, for use as a substrate in deposition processes for the manufacture of barrier films.
This unique polyester film with a Peelable Clean Surface (PCS) provides high barrier film producers with an inherently defect-free film surface for the deposition of thin inorganic and organic barrier layers, thus providing a needed breakthrough in the pursuit of high yield, long lifetime flexible electronic devices such as OLED, QD LCD, and OPV.
“The drive towards flexible electronics applications has created a pressing need for high performance barrier films in a wide range of application areas” said Thane Gough, Flexible Electronics Business Development Manager for DuPont Teijin Films. “We are confident that Melinex® PCS will provide a viable route to a cost effective barrier material, and enable the commercialisation of high volume flexible devices for current and future consumer electronics applications.”
“We are delighted to receive this award from IDTechEx, which acknowledges our ongoing commitment to working with developers and manufacturers in this exciting new market area.”
Dr Bill MacDonald, Business Research Associate for DuPont Teijin Films gave a presentation during the conference titled “Polyester Films for the Next Generation of Flexible Electronics”
DuPont Teijin Films have supported the emerging Flexible Electronics market since its inception and have listened to technology developers to understand the characteristics required of flexible, polymeric substrates. This has allowed DuPont Teijin Films to develop a range of new innovative films to support this growing market area. Melinex® PCS is the latest of these developments, and is designed to offer a near defect free surface for the deposition of organic and inorganic barrier materials. The clean surface has been shown to significantly improve the barrier properties of a coated film, increasing both performance and yield.
DuPont Teijin Films continue to invest in the Flexible Electronics market, and we welcome discussions on future substrate requirements. Our aim is to continue to develop novel films which contribute to new product and process innovation in this market.
IDTechEx predicts the transparent barrier materials market will exceed $200 million by 2025. (Source: http://www.idtechex.com/research/reports/barrier-layers-for-flexible-electronics-2015-2025-technologies-markets-forecasts-000409.asp)
